Capturing Art Aesthetics

Have you ever walked into an art museum and felt like your outfit game was off? During the summer tourist season, the usual museum-goer opts to wear khaki shorts, sensible shoes, and a fanny pack. However, the average art museum-goer knows that aesthetic is everything--especially when you're all about the Instagrams.

This can be tricky for those of us who are new to the whole fashion game. How do you manage comfort and style?

I thoroughly believe you should wear what you want to wear, no matter what. But, if you're looking for some tips on navigating the fine line of aesthetics. I've got you covered!

For this look, I choose to match a cute straw hat with a pink ribbon that I got from Hawaii, a pink lace-up top from American Eagle, my high-waisted jeans from Monki, and Jack Rogers sandals. All-in-all, a very summer look. However, there is a hidden functionality in this outfit. I choose a hat because I knew I'd be walking to the museum in the intense heat; the jeans were in case I got cold inside the air-conditioned museum; the shoes have no purpose--they're just cute.

To find your perfect museum aesthetic you really have to search for the perfect place to take a picture. When I saw this wallpaper I immediately knew I had found mine.

Really that's all it takes to find your perfect museum outfit and Instagram picture; be true to your style and find your own space in the museum.

Is This What an Adult Looks Like?

First-off, sorry for not having a post on Monday. This weekend I ate something that made me feel really sick, and I took the day off, from work and blogging. I did sport an 'athleisure' look, that I may post on Saturday, and break my cardinal rule of "no weekend" posts. Floral Dress with Doc Martens

There’s nothing more fun than mixing and matching different styles! A summer trend I’ve seen from Autum Rain (@autumrainn) and other fashion bloggers is pairing a floral summer dress with Doc Marten boots. It’s a harmonious mix of sweet and tough, punk and girly. Today I’m going to walk you through the ups and downs of wearing an outfit like this around town. I actually wear my black Doc Marten boots often, even to work. Adulting with a Twist

Continuing our series on adulating, I’ve matched a sweater with a high-waisted skirt with pleats. But wait, isn’t that what I wore yesterday? Why yes, keen eye my friend, it is. After all, most people wear a variation of the same outfit everyday. I know, Kate would label us all ‘outfit repeaters.’ However, just because you wear the same type of outfit, doesn’t mean you can’t spice it up a bit with a little character. Notice the addition of strategic accessories in today’s outfit. The scarf, a French twist on the red, white and blue motif, screams, “I’m a working adult, who pays their bills.” Or, for some, it screams flight attendant. The dark navy of the scarf pairs well with the black, above-the-knee skirt from H&M. Similarly, the beige sweater—also from H&M—offsets the dark neutral tones in the skirt with the lighter whites, without being too matchy-matchy.
